Dear Longhamistas (look away now if you are of a tender disposition with regard to IC engines - Ed) Photos of some 1970 s Seaplanes...The first one, in brown and white scheme, was an own design, powered by 2Stroke 40 size engines ....an Enya and Taipan 40 ( front exhaust....a very good arrangement as the front of the cylinder is the best cooled... imported by Phil Smith of Veron...I gather these engines gave him a lot of grief with leaking bearings ....designed in Australia by Gordon Burford, they were made in the Far East...? Not sure by whom,,,,The plane flew well ,probably was a bit too heavy with foam wings....it met its death when a strip aileron seized with rust on the torque rod.. Next is a red Wot 4 on exposed foam floats ...a bit fast and furious it flew well enough !I remember flying it in the Lake District Finally the Black and White Aeromaster ...an American Kit by Amco built when I was a medical student so it was made in 1975! Recently there has been a small spate of construction of this genre of biplane... Best wishes David Bintcliffe. |
