CLUB FIRST FLIGHTS IN 2024: MARCH, APRIL AND MAY

Maiden 3M Top Models Gracia 1

Richard Docketty maidens his Gracia thermal glider, early March at Oldfield

Wingspan: 3.07m, Motor: MVVS 4,6/840 sport, ESC: 60 Amp, Spinner: 40mm dia. Folding Prop: AeroNaut CAM Carbon (12x8" - for 4S LiPo, 14x8" - for 3S LiPo) Battery: 3- 4S LiPo 2.9 to 3.3mAh capacity, Servos: 6x HS 82MG

Kit Contents:

  • Lightweight but tough fuselage, moulded in white tinted epoxy fibreglass with carbon reinforcement.
  • Three-piece, balsa framework wing, with carbon wing joiner, leading edges and wing spar all covered with genuine Oracover.
  • Tailplane components are balsa framework with carbon spar and leading edges, all also covered with Oracover..

It is fitted with the recommended motor/ESC/Prop combo (see above) and I was pleasantly surprised at its climb rate which was nothing short of  rapid. Should be good for the Friday night challenge hopefully. No  thermals present during the maiden, but it glided well and and crow was pretty effective too (needed more elevator compensation dialled in though). There is no reflex available on the flaps, but it  covers the sky quite well anyway.

Geoff H Riot maiden

Managed two more sessions with since, including 3 flights this morning before the drizzle started.

The model is the built up rather than foam, the Pro-Built ARTF version and  it has an Overlander 4250/06 motor with 4 cell 2900 Li-Po.

Weighs in at 5lb 2oz.

Scared the life out of me on the first flight but getting used to it now!

Here’s the inside of Phil Hubble’s soXos, maidened perfectly on 9 May. And here’s the man and his machine.

Reported on another page, here’s David Bicker’s Sea Fury, converted from Bits Box to Slope Soaring. Maiden witnessed by Club member John Campkin, who was sitting as a spectator in a car parked behind the slope at East Creech and saw the Sea Fury's successful maiden flight.
