THE BIMBO MEETING AND CLUB SCALE DAY 2016
We had a very successful Scale Day, coupled with the traditional (and 9th) BIMBO meeting. Conditions were excellent on the Friday and Saturday and apart from one slight crash and probably write-off, all went well. From L to R, Tim, Mike, Nick, Andy, Trevor and Scott (all BIMBO builders)and Lakemaster, Auster, DH88 Comet, Chipmunk, Shoestring and Chipmunk.
Here’s the very first BIMBO builder , Andy Gates, with the very first UK Ivan’s model, built in 2006 and still going strong.
Trevor Flew his Cliff Charlesworth design T61 Falke. This is always a pleasure to see both on the ground and in the air.
And here it is with the Ed’s Auster AOP 6, an Ivan’s design that first flew in 2009and is still flying well despite one partial and one complete rebuild. There are very few model aeroplane crashes so bad that they can’t be repaired!
This is first -time builder Neil King’s Avro Vulcan from an RCME plan, for four EDF. It’s now flown without the optional UC and lands very smoothly on its belly. Trevor Hewson was the pilot here.
Trevor also flew his DH 89 Rapide, yet another Ivan’s design. This elegant and graceful 1930s design enjoyed the light breeze and makes a picture with its landing light on. The tree are not that close really!
Tim Calvert flew his Nigel Hawes design Tucano with great spirit after it had been checked out by TH. No BIMBO meeting would be complete without Scott, here in typical pose and typical activity!
Finally on the Friday, here’s Nick Chudleigh’s Lakemaster Twin, an adapted Ivan design. Nick is another founder BIMBO and modelling guru.
Always a pleasure to see Trevor’s DH88 Comet fly. This is another Ivan’s design and has the most presence in the sky of any of his models.
Finally, Peter Chaldecott brought a Robbe (?) Dash 7 of at least 15 years vintage. Originally powered by NiCds and speed 400, it’s been uprated to speed 480s and LiPo. Eventually hand-launched by Scott if flew amazingly well.
