TREVOR’S PERFORATOR
The Petrel colour scheme necessitates some film-over-film overlaps. To avoid getting air bubbles trapped between the layers, it helps to perforate the lower layer:
Having taken a bit of a break over the weekend, I’ve lashed up a simple film perforator. First, a few pins were positioned on a scrap of 3mm balsa with the aid of double sided tape:
Then a second piece of balsa was glued in place and the whole lot clamped in the vice overnight:
A piece of 6mm square balsa serves as a guard:
I had thought of adding a second row of pins but the device seems to work astoundingly well as is and, since I’ve only got fairly narrow (8-10mm wide) areas of overlap, I don’t think it’s needed.
