Sloping Off - September 2004 Ikarus Shock Flyer
Trevor's article was taken from his website at: http://homepage.mac.com/trevorhewson Chris Morris adds the following supplement: Like Trevor, when I first saw the 'shock flyer', being flown by Bob Blackmoor (UK's king at slow rolls), I decided it was "definitely a must have aeroplane". So how far would my allowance go?A few weeks later I also became the 'proud owner' of an EXTRemA. The difference between mine and Trevor's being that I have stuck to the standard motor the speed controller I'm using a 15amp one for Lithium batteries. As Trevor, I followed the building instructions very carefully. Unfortunately my kit did not have the necessary glue but I found a solvent free, all purpose UHU which was a good substitute. Once built, the next important consideration was which battery pack to use. After various discussions and e-mails I purchased a 3 cell 11.1volt 340mah li-poly pack (because I didn't have the brushless motor, I needed the extra voltage for optimum performance). Flying a full 3D schedule, I get seven minute flights off a single charge (unfortunately my allowance did not stretch to more than one battery pack so that's my evening's flying at the moment!)To date, flying both inside and out, the plane's only limitation appears to be that of the pilots. Having had the pleasure of flying Trevor's version, I have come to the conclusion that the ultimate setup for 3D performance would be the brushless motor and the larger (3-cell) power pack.
