Summer Thermal Series
May 9th saw the start of this series with a turnout of four gliders. It took Brian Brockway both of his designated flights to achieve a 7min max, his first attempt was a 4sec overfly, so is he on for another series of maximums as he did last year?

Dave Maskell was 2secs down flying his Optima Pro, not a bad effort with an aileron ARTF job. Alan Parker deserved his 6min 53sec flight as he went to the trouble of returning home to collect his trusty Algebra when it was seen that the wind was producing some good times. All these flyers were at a good altitude at the 6min period and their final time was dependent on them accurately judging when to land. Yours truly had a less distinguished time of 5m 12secs.

There was only one attempt by an electric flyer, Jim Ruffell flying his Speedo! Not surprisingly he couldn't make what he considered to be a worthwhile time but did have some good flights whizzing about the sky doing what a Speedo is designed for.

Gliding Competition at Chalbury
