Sloping Off - June 2005

Chairman's Musings
by Terry Antell

Greetings to all members and friends of C&DMFC.

Like many of you, I’m quite new to the area.  I moved to Barton-on-Sea for a more relaxed and quieter way of life.  How pleased I was to make friends with so many aeromodellers.  My one fear was not being able to fly with like minded people.

Well, I have met so many cheerful guys, all being C&DMFC members.  Okay, not all members, but I’m sure they are by now.  If you are reading this and not a member, send a cheque to the Treasurer (address in this copy of Sloping Off).

During the last two years I’ve been soaring from Barton cliffs.  Slowly but surely a small group of like minded souls have become regular flyers.  More recently we have had a few other club flyers visiting.  All have been helpful and supportive.

We have received so many comments, ALL supporting our hobby.  Particularly I remember three senior aged ladies who knew so much about elevators, ailerons, even elevons!  One lady used to deliver new Spitfire aircraft during WWII, the others had flown bombers and more recently a ‘Tiggy’.

Never dismiss those around you, just because they are in their later years of life.  I call this my second childhood.

Flying safely is no accident.
