Sloping Off - March 2006

Spitfire and Pilatus
by Alan Bradshaw

I have just been reading the December edition of sloping  off,  with what was said about the thicknes of the edition thought I may ply you with these two little items if  they help at all.  Please find enclosed two pics for your gallery, the 1st is of my 4  year old son who I'm trying to encourage into the hobby, I purchased the model partially complete as airframe only & asked him if he wanted daddy to finish & paint it to hang in his bedroom or to do it to fly it, I'm delighted to say his reply was to fly it, although the 1st attempt to fly it a week before christmas was thwarted by a motor that burnt out on launch after performing several ground checks without fault, it did manage a 12 second controlled descent & is now fitted with a new motor awaiting time & weather to try again.

The second pic is of my I/C model of a Pilatus PC6 Turbo porter which is a much modified ARTF, I didnt like the colour sceme it had or the fact it didnt have flaps so completely stripped the airframe, modified it to incorporate flaps & a full set of nav lights & anti collision beacons which I airbrushed in usaf colours based on a website  that I found listing every porter there was, initial test flights were a success although an abrupt landing did fracture the engine mount carrying a Laser 70 it has now been replaced & also awaiting flight again.

Finally I am struggling with a Speed 660 & Lipo configuration & as this is still all new to me would appreciate if I could speak to someone to try to iron out some suspicions & problems that I have encountered that the Model Workshop seem unable to help me with.
