Sloping Off - March 2006 Chairman's Musings
As I write this (mid February) we have just had 14 weeks of northerly winds. Only two occasions has the wind been on the front at Barton (southerly). This has given the opportunity for some, rise off ground power flying at Beaulieu Heath. My Fournier has been treated to many flying outings this winter marvellous! Lets look forward to a spring, full of delights, followed by a long hot summer. Okay, Ive stopped dreaming now. Seriously, how about a few more members attending the wonderful Friday evenings at Stanpit Recreation Ground? Both gliders and electric gliders are welcomed. Hey, we have 91 members!!!!!! Just bring along a model, the club has a bungee available and everyone will help and encourage you. The comp is intended to be low key and FUN. The relaxed flying starts anytime after 6pm until dusk. I managed to complete the training, safety and competence forms before Christmas. I havent distributed any of these YET. I encountered a serious computer problem? Answer? Build a new one. Fortunately I had saved everything to an external hard drive. I shall issue the papers to the committee first. Did any of you buy the February issue of Quite & Electric Flight International? No? Shame on you. My 1/4 scale T21 Sedburgh glider was in the Chris Williams scale section. Photos were by David Enticott. None of my photos were doctored, unlike those in the opening page by Chris Williams!! I saw Chris photos before they were manipulated on his computer. Indoor flying has had more flyers at Oakmead, this winter. Has this been due to the cold winter or are more people taking up this pursuit? Good to see. The club year ends on the 31st March!!! The new membership fee for 2006 (agreed at last years AGM) will be £24, including insurance. For those who are BMFA members the fee is unchanged at £16.
