Chairman’s chatter

Terry Antell

The winter months have been kinder than the last few years. Okay, depends on what you fly and where you fly.

The last Indoor Flying (this winter) at Durslton Court School, Becton Lane, Barton-on-Sea will be on Friday 27th March. Microaces will be attending the school on Friday 6th & again on Friday 27th March. They want our members to try out new model products and tell them what you think! They’ll go away and modify the planes and return on the 27th for us to try them again. They will be Indoor/Yard flyers (their words, not mine).

Starting on Friday the 1st May we will again be flying every Friday evening at Stanpit Recreation Ground. The usual Friday Night Challenge will start at 6pm onwards.

Saturday 16th May is the annual one day Blackbushe Model Air Show. Held on the main full size runway at Blackbushe Airport, near Camberley. Free parking, you just pay cash to enter.

On Sunday the 14th June the annual Rose Bowl thermal glider comp will be flown, once again, at the Wessex Soaring Association site at Chalbury Farm, Horton, Dorset. Yes, elec thermal gliders can enter. I’ll be the C.D. WSA & C&DMFC will be taking part as an inter-club friendly event. Entry for both the above competitions is free.

This summer we have a few events in the club diary. These are for Strawberry Field, plus flying from water at Longham.

Thursday 18th June. I’ll be running an electric thermal glider comp. It will be a reasonably easy event to fly. This to enable those with Radian’s and the like to take part. This means two sections. Models with up to 2.3 metre wingspan & models with up to 4 metre wingspan. The smaller models can take place in both events. Landing tapes will be on the field for those who wish to try and acquire extra points for the landings. I’ve decided on a Thursday as almost all those with elec gliders are retired. I know Martin Burr would like to have a go and his shop is closed on a Thursday, hopefully he’ll be along.

Mike Roach will be running a Fun Fly day on Saturday 27th June AND Saturday 25th July.

Mike is also running a two day Scale model BIMBO fly in at S/F. Friday 28th & Saturday 29th August. On Sunday 30th August he will be doing the same at Longham. Scale off water.

All the above are subject to change AND the weather, too!

If you can’t keep it up, give it more power (electric of course)

Happy safe flying,

Terry
