Christchurch and District Model Flying Club

CAPTION COMPETITION

Reviving an annual Club event from a few years back, all you have to do is provide a caption to the Jim Henry cartoon.

Jim is a friend of Terry’s, living in Oz. Interestingly, he has this to say about RC flying:

“I've long had the view that RC flying is at its best in the UK. Your club has good membership numbers whereas we have our numbers around 50 to 55. We fly on Thursdays 8am - 1pm (that's tomorrow, and I'm off to the field) and Sundays 8am - 1pm. We have two fields: one is a flat thermal field in a recreational park, at Redbank near Ipswich and we pay about $200 per year to the Ipswich City Council for exclusive use of it. But as it is also a public park, people walking dogs can stroll over the field at any time. On Thursdays, we pretty well have it to ourselves. The Sunday group have more strollers and onlookers coming by, but there's never been a problem. I would say 60 -70% of our membership are retired men. We have a few women (two I think) and 3 kids around 12 years.”

So, captions to me please at roachfoxwood@aol.com in time for the next issue. And yes, there will be a prize!

Talking of captions, here is Trevor Hewson at the Avon Valley model flying group’s site, not far from Bournemouth Airport. This field is down a muddy and bumpy track but as you can see, is flat, clear and grassy. The annual fee is about £80 and if we lose our flying field then this is where I’m going! (As well as CDMFC, of course!)
