Various meetings at Strawberry Field have produced a response from The New Forest National Park: we are to keep an on-site register of club members using the field when flying.
The procedure will be: enter the site and park adjacent to the front barn, then go to the white box and open it using a gas or electric meter cupboard key. Almost all members have one of these to access their own meters.
Fold the door down and it will stay horizontal being held by 2 small chains. Take the hard backed register out from its plastic holder and the Date, Your Name & the Time you came in. Now place your payment in the letter box. You may lightly rest the book on the open door.
The NFNP will come and inspect the register from time to time. Should a member be seen flying when the enforcement officer drives past he may note the date & time down. On another occasion he will attend and view the register. If anyone is found to have been flying without registering then the owner & ourselves will be in breach of the requirement. We may then have to apply for Planning Consent which may well be turned down based on our inability to keep records.
So for now PLEASE use the book. A couple of pencils will be in the box, please leave them after use.
For all those involved with the above work I thank you. That’s Nick King, Malcolm Bird & Terry Butterfield, yes, I went along, too!
I must also mention that flying at Longham Reservoir has been confirmed for the next two years. Sembcorp have congratulated us on having no incidents to report, so remember: safe flying and good flying sites is no accident!
Happy landings (and take a meter cupboard key!!)
Terry
