So far, better weather than 2007 or 2008!
A few members have slipped by the wayside but the club membership is slightly higher than 2008 with a number of new recruits.
Safety is no accident. Our national body, the BMFA, have used this slogan for many years. All of us need to keep this in mind when building, assembling or flying a model.
Three months ago I attended a meeting of the Christchurch Sports Council, of which C&DMFC are members. All types of activities are discussed and on this occasion I raised the problems encountered at Stanpit Recreation ground.
Stanpit is a RECREATION ground, not a SPORTS field. This means there are not any football pitches or cricket squares, idea for our activity!! Those who have been there this spring/summer may have noticed the grass is shorter and is mown weekly by Christchurch Borough Council. This was following another meeting I had with officials about longer grass and dog mess. On a dry day it is quite acceptable for our members, and ONLY our members, to take off and land with an undercarriage now the grass is short. The cutting was agreed WITHOUT any cost to C&DMFC.
We have given a cheque for £20 to the Sports Council as our club donation to funds.
Please continue to support our Friday evening thermal competition at Stanpit. Arrive 6pm onwards, bring a glider, complete with a tow hook and have a go on the club bungee. If you’ve not tried thermal flying before PLEASE ask for assistance and one of the old (sorry, experienced) hands will trim the model and put it up the line.
Indoor flying will again be at Bournemouth University, commencing Friday 4th September, and will be monthly up to and including March 2010. My thanks to Andrew Tubb for securing the venue once again.
TVSA Blackbushe.
The weather wasn’t the best a pilot could wish! Large powered models were superbly flown, as were the ½ scale gliders. The German team demonstrated what can be done using a ½ scale sailplane with a jet engine mounted on top of the fuselage –WOW!
Various jet powered model aircraft were put through their paces, one flying at a little over 200mph.
I don’t know if any of our members would have wished to fly in such high winds at a public display, or anywhere for that matter??
Christchurch & Dist Model flying Club – Rose Bowl thermal comp is scheduled for Sunday 2nd August. We’ll be flying at one of the Wessex club’s sites at Chalbury Farm, Horton, Dorset (with thanks to the Wessex Soaring Association). It’s FREE entry to participate, so, come along and support your club. If you don’t want to fly still attend and help. I’m running the competition and welcome your support. Bungee and winch launches available, then try and fly for 10 minutes, that’s it.
I’ve had the pleasure of administrating the BMFA “A” tests as C&DMFC Club Examiner. Well done to all those who have given their all and passed. Any other member wishing to attempt a BMFA “A” cert (any discipline) should contact me direct.
Safe flying and happy landings to all,
Terry
