Our Open Day waterplane events are at Longham Lake on Saturdays 20 July and 14 September 0900 to 1500. Entry for Club members is free but otherwise it’s £10. The event is for for electric power propeller driven models, and because the lake is a reservoir of drinking water for the local area, no IC or turbines. If you want to bring an EDF, please check in with the email below before-hand. Proof of BMFA membership is required for all fliers.

Details of the location at BH22 9AB and directions for travel are here.

Free parking is about 200m from the flying point and there are toilets on site but no other facilities – bring your own lunch! There will be a rescue boat for unlucky models. Please contact Mike at roachfoxwood@aol.com three days before for a weather check.

The lake will be open for flying from 9am with a pilots’ briefing at 10am. The basic rule is to fly over the water, not over any surrounding land or the fishing lake to the north.

The only place to fly from is the specially constructed Flying Point shown in this picture. There is room for three pilots (or four at a pinch). No more than four models in the air at once. The reeds in will be trimmed back for the event. It follows that model recovery depends on accurate steering back to the FP. Models stuck in the reeds can be easily recovered by donning a pair of waders, but the lake bed shelves steeply and unlucky models further out will have to be recovered by the rescue boat.
