Here we are at Fawcett’s Field on a fresh sunny morning. Left to right: John Stafford with his Extra 300, Mike McLaughlin with his Decathlon and me, Keith Young with my PC9 Roulette. All are fitted with C35-20 outrunner brushless motors and with a 3-cell Lipo battery, except mine – I’m still using an 8-cell NiCad. Performance of all the models is excellent, but I feel that mine is a bit more stable in the air with the extra weight of the battery. All these models are from the Seagull range, distributed by J Perkins (you can see the whole range at www.jperkinsdistribution.co.uk). However, a few mods are required.ie:
- On some of the models the control horns need changing from wood to nylon.
- Strengthening is required to the fuselage and wings where the UC is located.
- On the Extra 300, the elevator snapped at the join under the rudder (whilst doing aerobatics). John did very well and landed the plane in one piece after this slightly serious failure!)
But all in all, super little planes at Ł53 each. Peter King joined us with his Twin Star and a good morning’s flying was had by all.
