Chairman’s chatter

Terry Antell

After the demise of Channel 4 Models I hope members have found another local outlet to full fill their modelling requirements. The hobby outlet based adjacent to Haskins Garden Centre, Longham carry a stock of balsa wood, plus bass wood which is a light and very hard wood without knots, etc. Also glues! Not cheap but no postage if you are visiting Longham water flying site.

Your committee have been exploring ways to keep members interested in building. Tim Calvert will be talking at our July club meeting about this.

Slope Club days Out have been well attended over the winter & spring months. Long may that continue.

Mike Roach has put in place club days at Strawberry Field. The first is in June with a fall back date for bad weather in July. (See Mike’s Editors section in this mag)

The last Saturday in August will be a club scale day at Strawberry Field followed by a water flying day on the Sunday.

Talking of S/F. Mowing has continued apace. A good dialog has been maintained by committee members with the field owner, Michael Cooper.

As always. I ask ANY member having ANY a problem with ANY local land owner to report this IMMEDIATLY to a committee member (so far NO complaints)

PLEASE read the flying rules for S/F or any other club field or slope.

Stanpit Recreation ground is available to club members and we are continuing our Friday Night Challenge events every Friday starting 2nd May till the last Friday in August. If you come along please try and bring a stop watch. Not essential but it does help speed the evening along.

If you wish to take a BMFA “A” test on a Friday evening in any flat field discipline please let me know so I can have the required papers with me.

The Club Rose Bowl thermal glider event is again on this year. Any glider may be launched from a bungee, winch or electric motor. Once again we are indebted to Wessex Soaring Association for hosting this event on Sunday 8th June at their Chalbury Farm site. No entry fee.

PLEASE consider coming along, even if only to assist me, yes, I’m the contest director again. Don’t worry, I usually lose!

PLEASE visit our club web site regularly to keep abreast of club happenings. We have most club nights covered until next spring. If you have an idea for a talk by someone please let me know as I try to look at least 6 months in advance.

Last but not least. Martin Burr and myself still attend Christchurch Borough Council Sports Council Meetings as representatives of our club. Nothing to report affecting our activities but a close watch being kept on Stanpit Rec during its revamp/update.

May the sun shine and the lift be amazing every day, including onshore breezes.

Happy landings

Terry Antell
