The Short “Golden Hind” I’m building isn’t really a bent bird, just the effect of the “panorama” setting on my camera. At 100” span, and now that most of the structure is compleet in outline, it is impossible to rig it without some serious furniture movement. Here she is being set up for one of the critical path stages, marking then drilling the holes for the wing dowels. Get this wrong and it’s a whole day getting it right again.
The fin and rudder have a ply blade that slots into a housing and just lifts off (and will be held with magnets) - the tailplane has dowel at the front and a small nylon bolt at the back. The elevators will be driven by a split rod-in-tube (yopu can see the two tubes running up the fuselage) and the rudder servo is in the turret housing at the back. I think it will need a 5000mAh 3-cell battery to balance the beast.
I hope to bring it to the March meeting if it’s not raining!
