christchurch and district model flying club

chairman’s chatter

Hi again.

Let’s hope you’ve all put your list up the chimney ready for Father Christmas. He can’t carry too much, so don’t be too hopeful!
At our September meeting in the new meeting place, The Walkford, Walkford Road, Walkford, Nr Highcliffe, Dorset. We were entertained by the secretary of the Wessex Hangliding/Paragliding Club. I came away having learned so much and was delighted.

Most of your committee missed the October meeting as we were away enjoying some slope soaring on the south Devon coast. Thanks to Martin Burr for stepping in to chair the meeting.

November was our annual auction event. Thirty three items were up for grabs. Eighteen actually changed hands and no doubt will be early Christmas presents for some.

The following evening, Terry Sullivan, David Enticott and myself visited the Wessex Pg/Hg club. They have a monthly meeting at The Elmtree, Hightown Road, Ringwood on the first Thursday each month.  Terry S had assembled a marvellous presentation on a CD. It was entertaining and VERY informative. We also played a DVD of a few members flying their models.

It was so appreciated that we (the club members) have been invited to have a fly at their (Wessex) private slope site. It’s called Bell Hill, details will be available during next Spring. We were also invited to have a flight in a full size glider next Spring/Summer. This will be during one or two evenings at Lasham Airfield, Lasham, Nr. Basingstoke. Their senior instructor will take you aloft and allow you a feel of the controls. All this will be free of charge.  At our AGM I’ll be taking names of interested parties. Be there or miss out!!!

Having mentioned the AGM, I can confirm that it will be held at our March Meeting next year. Should there be any changes, financial or other wise, they’ll take affect commencing in April 2007.  This is to help the committee keep pace with costs, etc.

Those who ordered a BlueBird 100” V tail electric assist model glider will now have them!! Details of the relaxed (hopefully) comps were copied into each kit box.

I look forward to seeing all eleven flying (the eleven includes my one too). We intend holding practice evenings during April 2007 at Stanpit and I suggest a Tuesday evening?? Friday’s are for gliders and we don’t want a Thursday as it’ll be two evening on the trot for some!! Wednesday’s (ok, just the first one) are club meetings. Hey, that wasn’t difficult, was it?

May I wish you all a sincerely happy Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.

Terry Antell
