You might be amused to see one of my early attempts at wire bending. This was a rubber powered actuator made in 1951 In those days, if you wanted one, you had to make it yourself. Elmics came much later. The actuator disc was made out of PC board and had a small section left on it whch was wiped to close a circuit to another actuator which worked the elevator. The star wheel was a speed govenor to slow the rotation down to give a longer blip. Without this arrangement, the elctromagnet on the second actuator would not pull in. To make it all work required a train of short and long blips which was too difficult to remember when flying and some form of ground sequencer was needed which I never got around to making. The second pic shows a much smaller "standard" actuator of which I must have made a dozen or so at the time. This just gave right or left rudder throw by single or double blipping the transmitter signal.
