Raes christchurch newsletter

The Winter programme for the Christchurch RAES lectures (held at Bournemouth Uni lecture halls) has been published.  This time there are a couple with a local and aeromodelling subject. Membership is only £8, and I’m sure you could join on the night if you came along with existing members Trevor or Mike

25 Sep.  Enhancing Reputation by the Virgin Atlantic Corporate Communications Director (Why does this subject fill me with cynical gloom I wonder—Ed)

23 Oct Samuel Cody 100 years on.

27 Nov The PicoZ story—developing the world’s smallest remote-controlled model helicopter. (perhaps the word “production” should be in there somewhere? - Ed)

18 Dec Wings around the World—Polly Vacher MBE

22 Jan Birth of the X-35 Lightning

26 Feb Saunders-Roe Princess by Bob Wealthy

26 Mar Airborne atmospheric measurement with BAE 146 G-LUXE

23 Apr AGM and speaker

The newsletter also had details of the Bournemouth free air display (which will have happened by the time you read this: was it good?)

This year Bournemouth Council has taken the bold step of arranging a FREE four day Sea Front Air Festival following the lines of similar events at Dawlish, Eastbourne and Southend. It will be held on 28-31 August and details are being given in the local press. The decibel levels should increase with the appearance (amongst many others) of RAF Typhoons as well as the locally based Gnat and Sea Vixen. The main problem would appear to be how to get to the East Cliff to see the display.

And this interesting snippet about the much-missed Bournemouth Aviation Museum)

At last work is starting again on the new terminal at Bournemouth Airport. Having been delayed for some months following objections by the New Forest National Park, passengers should be able to benefit from the new buildings from the summer of 2010. The terminal expansion has seen the demise of the original Bournemouth Aviation Museum. However plans are well advanced for anew site at Adventure Wonderland on the opposite side of the road to the Airport. Anticipating planning approval by the end of August, a small open air museum is initially planned as a separate facility to the existing Wonderland site. If all goes well, plans are in hand for enlarging the area in due course.
