Third time lucky?
By mike roach
This was my 84” Auster just in front of the hungry pines about 18 months ago. It was built from the Ivan Pettigrew “Aiglet” plan, but modified quite a bit to become a RNZAF Auster 4. The plan was to fit it with floats but...this happened!
The subsequent repairs were not too difficult and she flew again within a couple of months.
Then this happened…
This time there was considerably more to do, and only the tail group survived intact. She needed a completely new fuselage and quite a few repairs to the wing, but having taken the plunge, it seemed only fair to give her a new identity: that of the Auster AOP6 hanging in the main hall at the Middle Wallop museum. She still needs the camo paint job and markings, but she has flown! Third time lucky?
