Christchurch and District Model Flying Club

Chairman’s Musings

The Chairman in his official capacity

Ever noticed just how so many of us have come to rely on computers, printers, the internet and email, let alone mobile phones?

So, when my telephone line was cut off by BT and NOT taken over by SKY (as was suppose to happen) we here at Biggles Towers had to resort to snail mail. My printer decided it didn’t want to talk to my new wireless router, too. A model slope glider flyer eventually got the printer connected or you wouldn’t be reading this – err you are reading it aren’t you?  Oh good.

Our membership has increased this year to 73 (at the middle of August).

Our– Rose Bowl thermal comp was held on Sunday 2nd August at one of the Wessex club’s sites at Chalbury Farm, Horton, Dorset.

Please view results elsewhere in this copy of ‘Sloping Off’. Thanks to Mike McLauchlan, Ian Wettstein and Brian Atkins for attending just to help out with timing and scoring.

Well done to Clive Spencer & John Stafford in passing BMFA “A” tests. Clive flew his Bubble Dancer for Thermal glider “A” & John an Extra 300 Elec Fixed Wing Power for FW “A”.

Indoor flying will again be at Bournemouth University, commencing  Friday 4th September,  and will be monthly up to and including March 2010.  My thanks to Andrew Tubb for securing the venue once again. The dates up to Christmas are Friday 4th Sept, Friday 16th Oct, Friday 6th Nov & Friday 4th Dec.

We have a one off FREE evening on Friday 11th Sept at Highcliffe Social Club. 8 till 10pm. It’s opposite Tesco Express by the traffic lights. Yes, there is a car park, too. Refreshments will be available for you to purchase.

Club autumn slope day out has had to be re-arranged and will now be Thursday 17th Sept. Ring Martin Burr 01202 773144 the night before for where we’ll meet.

Good to see Channel 4 Models have signs displayed in the shop warning people about safety & responsibility. Once you the modeller release the model to fly you are liable for what then happens, not the manufacture or supplier. If you don’t know what you’re doing, seek help.

Safe flying and happy landings to all.

Terry
