TERRY SULLIVAN
It was with so much sadness that I heard of Terry Sullivan’s death late on Sunday 21st November.
He was so supportive of the club and only stood down from the committee in October 2009 because of ill health.
Terry had suffered from rheumatoid arthritis for around 14 years which restricted his movements and slowly deformed many joints. During August 2009 he was told the drug he’d been on long term could cause leukaemia. He had monthly, then weekly blood tests at hospital. Just before Christmas 2009 it was confirmed he had that particular cancer.
Without detailing his treatments I can say he did so well to battle through hospital treatments only having around 8 weeks out of hospital during 2010. He also suffered pneumonia which obviously weakened him.
I visited him twice during the summer and he was enthusiastic about returning to model flying.
I remember a week with Terry just a few years ago in the R C Modeller’s Hotel on the Mediterranean Island of Corfu, a holiday Terry had won in a ‘Spot the Model’ competition.
Terry annually made the trip to South Devon for a week of slope soaring with a few other club members
Terry was only 53 years into his life when he was taken from us. He has two sisters who reside in the UK and his mother living in Spain.
I leave you with a picture taken in happier, healthier times on Corfu.
Terry Antell. Proud to have been his friend.
