Club Slope Day out
By Terry Antell
Dreams are made of this
The weather forecast for Thursday 22nd May was dismal. Oh whoopee, they were so wrong. Okay, it wasn’t strong sunshine but it was dry and warm. Seven guys met at the Baker’s Arms, just off the A35 near Wareham. All followed Martin Burr to the Picnic Site as that’s where the wind looked like helping us. We arrived to see David Lloyd waiting to launch.
The wind was straight on the slope although rather variable in strength. X-its and various models were soon climbing to wonderful heights. Now the wind left us and all were on tera-firma!
Martin suggested moving to a site a mile or so away to, ‘take the view’. All models were packed away and the driving snake recommenced. David Lloyd decided to stay at the Picnic site leaving 7 to move on. The second site was devoid of public and cars, the solitude was superb.
One member forgot his transmitter, another forgot his wing joiner (both left at home). Terry Sullivan helped out with a Tx and Martin had a length of studding which was just long enough to get the Easy Glider flying. The wind returned as if to say,’ thanks for coming’.
I took 8 models and flew 6. Ian Wettstein took and flew all 6 of his. All in all around 20 or so models were flown, all safely, too.
The weather decided it was time for a little watering of gardens!! By now it was gone 5pm. Rather than sit in a traffic queue we visited, The Silent Woman for a little refreshment. (What a lovely thought!!!!)
I took my video camera and took (I thought) film and stills of the location and flying. Hell, I must be getting old as NOTHING was recorded!!!!!
All felt it was a worthwhile adventure, something we shall repeat during September.
If you wish to participate come to the monthly meetings.
Those who came this time were; Terry Antell, Mike McLauchlan, Terry Sullivan, Tony Cousins, Ian Wettstein, Martin Burr, Stuart Fell and David Lloyd.
