Christchurch and District Model Flying Club
sloping off

EDITORIAL

Dreams are made of this, said the Chairman, in his “Day Out” report. Indeed they are. I took my Sailing Club’s rescue boat out into the middle of Christchurch Harbour last Saturday evening, complete with Catalina and a fully charged battery. The sun was out, the sky was blue, it was raining in France (I think that’s what Buddy Holly said) and there was just a breath of wind to ripple the water.  It was the best model flying I’ve ever had, and you can read more about it on page 16.

Do you want rules or not?  I ask because for two years running the conduct of the annual Construction and Finish competition has been marked by the complete disregard for the rules under which the competition is supposed to be held. If I’m the only one to be offended by this, then I’ll shut up, but if the Thermal Comp rules were changed half way though an event there would be a loud moaning from the fliers.  The crunching noise you hear from the builders’ table is the sound of balsa and liteply being snapped between grinding teeth.

Thanks to the contributors to this issue: the ever-loveable B Leonard Wise with another adventure  in Euro-Land; Terry Antell, bless him contributes more than the rest of us put together, and Ken Spokes venture into the world of airborne video.  Since the article was written he has published the 10-minute flight footage in compressed format and he is looking forward to flying his immaculate brushless-powered Junior 60 off water as part of the current move to combining flying with sailing.
