JOHN macklin’S “A TEST” SUCCESS
BY TREVOR HEWSON
"It’s always good to read of youngsters passing their A-tests in record time but sometimes it’s as well to remind ourselves that extraordinary achievement is not the sole prerogative of youth. Our latest fixed wing A -test graduate achieved this milestone less than a year after taking up the hobby - at the tender age of 85.
John displays a level of enthusiasm and excitement about his flying that would rival any eight year old and is always extremely appreciative of help offered by any of his fellow club members. As well as flying his trusty Fun Cub on the flat, he has also been joining us on the slopes and, once he has had a bit more landing practice on some of our trickier sites, I have no doubt that he will be on the A trail once again. He tries to fly at every opportunity, except Thursdays - because Thursday is reserved for flying his microlight! He recently let slip that he was the oldest graduate of that flying school too, so there does seem to be a bit of a pattern here.
John is pictured with his Fun Cub and his latest acquisition, a Parkzone Artizan. It has already been pointed out to him that the Artizan is a very suitable model for the B test. Watch this space!"
