These check lists are presented on one piece of paper so that they can be kept in your flight box and used as a ready reference. They are quick reminders and are not substitutes for the guidance given in the BMFA handbook, the club constitution and rule book or any rules for any flying site or special event.

Please feel free to suggest additions or changes to these lists. You may want to add your own items to the lists - please copy and amend them to suit yourself. The formal rules listed above will always take precedence over these and your own lists.

 

List 1 – Before leaving home

List 2 – On arrival at the flying site

  • Models airworthy
  • Tx set up for all models
  • Flight box/Tool box
  • Batteries charged
  • Suitable clothing & footwear
  • Food & Drinks
  • Mobile phone
  • First Aid kit
  • Parking restrictions
  • Contact other flyers
  • Pit area
  • Frequency control
  • Flight line / pilot box
  • Safe flying areas
  • No fly areas
  • Landing procedures and area

List 3 – Before leaving the pits

List 4 – Before EACH flight

  • Airframe secure
  • Radio equipment secure
  • Control linkages
  • Tx range check
  • Tx memory set for the plane you wish to fly
  • All controls operating in correct sense
  • Join pilot line
  • All controls operating in correct sense
  • Check wind direction
  • Clear of other fliers
  • Landing area clear
  • Call “TAKE OFF” or “LAUNCHING” (Other pilots should respond before you fly)

List 5 – Ending EACH flight

List 6 – On arrival home

  • Check landing area
  • Call “LANDING”
  • Leave Tx  on the flight line and call “RETRIEVING”
  • Airframe damage
  • Radio equipment secure
  • Control linkages
  • If finished flying then disconnect the battery, switch off Rx and then the TX
  • Check for any damage
  • Charge batteries
